You’re already thinking about saying goodbyes to your French class, summer break, going to the beach, or reading the pile of books you haven’t been able to touch since last September. Hang in there, here are some ideas to help you make it through these last weeks of school without losing your mind:
Review
When summer approaches you might want to stop adding new vocabulary, new tenses and new concepts in general. It is the perfect time to review what has been learned over the months. I like to switch things up and use different tools and materials to reach that goal.
Reading comprehension activities
They are great because they include everything from vocabulary to grammar. You don’t have to dig into chapter books with your beginners, use short and interesting texts to boost their confidence.
Here is my reading comprehension activity bundle for beginners that will save you some time. You just have to print the worksheets. There is no prep. Each reading passage has a theme (ex: Le camping, la nourriture, les vêtements), a true or false activity, a drawing assignment and comprehension questions.
review packet
I put together an activity packet for Beginner French that can be used to assess what your class has been retaining. You can decide to do it all at once or to break it down and have your students do a part during each class. To correct them, I like to have my students switch copies and go through the answers as a group.
Kahoot
If your students are anything like mine, they will be obsessed with Kahoot. Some of you might be wondering what on earth is Kahoot? It’s quite simple. Kahoot is a free-to-use digital platform that uses quiz games. You can really make a quiz about anything.
Last year, my friends had a birthday party for their one-year-old and we played Kahoot. All the questions were about their son’s first year of life. I scored very poorly if you really want to know.
If you have time, you can create your own quiz to review conjugation, grammar, vocabulary, culture or you can have groups of students making a quiz for the class. It’s a little more engaging and fun.

Go on French Virtual Field Trips
Of course, not every school has the luxury to take their students on field trips at the end of the school year. Still, I strongly believe that learning a language must be connected to what it is used for: discovering different cultures, traditions, ways of living and thinking.
Virtual Field Trips are an excellent alternative. You want to explore Paris with your students? Amazing! I have the perfect option for you, from the emblematic Eiffel Tower to the Champs-Elysées, your kiddos will have a blast with my Paris field trip bundle. Now, Francophone culture isn’t only in France and Paris. I created various virtual field trips to discover Francophone territories such as La Polynésie Française ou La Martinique.
Here are some tips to make the most of Virtual Field Trips in your French class.
