a scavenger hunt through french culture:
Have you ever taken your students on a scavenger hunt? If not, you’ve been missing out! Scavenger hunts are MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE activities to put together. Let me walk you through what they are and why they are the best resource to keep your students learning and engaged!
First, what is a Scavenger Hunt and how can you use them for french culture?
A scavenger hunt is a game where players try to find items from a list within a certain amount of time. The items can be anything which makes this game adaptable to any French unit.
There are two ways to win a scavenger hunt:
1 - Be the first group/person to find all items from the list.
2 - Be the group/person to find the most items from the list.
Why is it a great asset for teaching about french culture?
Scavenger hunts really do provide a memorable learning experience. Students get excited about the search and of course the competitive aspect of it. But more than just fun, students become curious and interested in the task of finding items.
Scavenger hunts can be used for several different purposes, such as individual work, partner work, or small group work. They can also be used to review/practice vocabulary. For example, if students are working on French classroom vocabulary, teachers might ask their students to find the following items: Une trousse, un crayon rouge, un cahier, un livre avec du jaune, un feutre noir, un effaceur, une règle.
I worked in museums in France for many years leading workshops for kids and teens, so it has been fun for me to apply my knowledge by creating scavenger hunts about French culture. Are you ready to see the scavenger hunts? Let me show you!

French Culture in Paris
Another of my favorites is the Paris scavenger hunt! What is the name of the river that runs through Paris? How many neighborhoods does Paris have? What is the Notre-Dame de Paris? The first 12 questions help students learn more about one of the most famous cities in the world, while the second page includes 4 Paris monuments for students to identify.
